My blog has come as a result of a class assignment. In the Black Studies class, White Studies 410, I was required to construct a blog and keep my responses there throughout the term. With this blog, I have turned it into more than my responses for a class. This blog is more like responses to life, all of my thought-provoking classes, discussions that I’ve had and continue to have, and the suggestions of fellow humans on the path of seeking social justice throughout the world.
My desire is that social and economic mobility be an equitable endeavor for all. I don’t desire to see any group, even my own, in charge of or running the show. With regards to education and opportunity, all should have a legitimate chance to better themselves and their communities. Education has never been quite equitable. Unique to this country is the strong stratification by race and class. Our entire system of existence needs to be changed to become truly democratic where all people groups have an equal voice and vote at the table of decision-making!
Glad to have found your blog! I agree with you entirely that education is not equitable (and certainly nowhere near it in this non-free U.S.A of ours). I look forward to reading more of your blog!
Very interesting commentary. I’m listening.
Thanks for listening? You know, the word interesting is one of those colorless words; in other words, it doesn’t really mean anything without a context. So, what do you mean by interesting? At any rate, I hope we can learn from each other.
Hi Matt~
I’m so glad to find you have a blog and have just begun to read the archives. First, thank-you for sharing your thoughts, your insight is very, very valuable to me. I’ve just finished reading Beverly Tatum’s second book “Can We Talk About Race”? and after a class this summer on Social Justice and Diversity issues, my brain is on fire! I am excited to learn more and grow. I’ll comment here when I can compose something meaningful, but if you ever just want to hang out and talk, that would be great.
